Made it in the newspaper!

Sales lag for Small Business Saturday in Augusta | The Augusta Chronicle

Sales lag for Small Business Saturday in Augusta

Maybe it was the bevy of major college football matchups Saturday afternoon.

Maybe shoppers were resting from the frenzy of Black Friday.
Maybe people just didn’t realize it was Small Business Saturday.
Salespeople at area businesses offered a variety of possible reasons for lagging sales during Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday started in 2010 as an incentive by American Express to encourage its members to shop at independent locally-owned stores. The credit card company offered its members $25 back if they spent at least $25 at a qualifying small business, according to its Web site.
But though several area businesses said they were busy Black Friday, most were slow even for a typical Saturday.
“I just asked the mailman, and he said it looked like it was slow all the way around,” said Sondra Graham, a saleswoman at Angevine’s Fine Silver in Surrey Center.
A sign on the door advertised a 10 percent discount for the Saturday sales event.
Graham chalked up lagging sales to the Georgia-Georgia Tech game.
On Friday and Saturday, Susan’s offered a buy three, get one for $1 sale. The $1 for the fourth item is donated to the Salvation Army.
But the sales staff were the only people in the Surrey Center store about 2 p.m.
“We had a nice day yesterday, but today has been quieter,” owner Susan Lanier said.
It was the same story a few minutes later on the upper level at Design Images and Gifts, though a couple of customers had just left.
“I don’t think people know about Small Business Saturday, do you?” saleswoman Amy Mitchell said.
She also wondered whether the football games kept people from shopping, but reported that the store’s Saturday sales had been normal.
At Communigraphics in North Augusta, quite a few customers were milling about Saturday morning, but traffic was slower than a typical Saturday, retail supervisor Kayla Williams said.
Sales staff walked around with trays offering guests baked goods to nibble as they shopped, as they do every weekend. On Friday, they offered shoppers a full hot breakfast including grits, bagels and coffee.
They also offered specials on both days for customers who subscribe to their e-mails and had sales on apparel, jewelry and Christmas items.
Pam Sowell was there in part to take advantage of the American Express offer, but mostly to take pictures of her granddaughter, Sarah Sowell, as she sat on Santa’s lap.
“Last year we did the same thing. We came to see Santa and spent it here,” she said.

Happy Halloween!!!

Our little one seemed to enjoy Halloween.  I can't wait till I can find another wacky costume next year.

Sarah is known at school as the "hungry one" and her teacher that just returned told me how much she grew in just one month (sniff sniff) and that she also LOVES whole milk. Go figure.  I am predicting 98th percentile in height next doctor visit!

Sarah was very intrigued with trick or treating. She didn't quite get the concept of taking candy from the bowl at peoples houses or that she needed to go up to the door. Overall, she did pretty well and wasn't really that scared. I think it helped that we went with some other families and she had other kids to follow and model her behavior after.

Sarah at the urban pumpkin patch after church on Sunday.  (Also in her new Gap coat!)

Gonna buy me a pumpkin!

My gnome in action! See what she is sitting next to!

Sarah did not want to wear her costume but guess who won. Yep, me!  However, Sarah sat down late (due to costume fight) to her second breakfast and immediately stole poor Braylon's biscuit (living up to her nickname) and then later stole one of his peaches!

The families we went trick or treating with. Very very smart since we would look we like trying to get the candy for ourselves if she went by herself!  (bring all extras to work tomorrow.)

Sarah visiting our next door neighbor Marge who dug up some candy for her.

She will be sleeping in her halloween pj's for the night. Goodnight!

BabyGap

We went to babygap to use a gift card a friend sent us for Sarah's 1st bday.  Thanks Michael!

Sarah loved running around the store. I mean tons!!!

I want this coat.. Unfortunately with kid sizes and adult price tags we did not get this one.... But, we did get the black one that was on sale with the same size...

Me love bagels!!!

Chowing down --- that is about as far as she got...

On her post-workout run out the energy with Ms. Rebecca and her bagel...

Healing after her fall/scare/bloody mouth... Looks like she is okay. Hopefully no damage to any new teeth coming in.... and yep she is getting a bottom molar in!

I love fall!

Here are a few pictures from the past couple of weeks.

Her teacher told us that at daycare she doesn't want to nap so runs around the other kids on the cots with her blanket over her head. nice!

She is also very hungry when we pick her up so we have started bringing snacks to make the car ride more bearable to all of us!

I was going to take Sarah to Discovery Zone this Friday on my 1/2 day off but it got run over by the repair guys. However, now our sink doesn't leak, our power works, our laundry closet door shuts and our refrigerator no longer leaks. Alleluia!

Sarah's obsession with Mama continues with little choice but for me to HOLD her all the time.  I think she is growing and gaining weight rapidly!

Sarah also is good at getting in chairs and even tried to climb up on to a big chair today. Whoa! Don't know about any childhood locks for those!

Sarah playing on my toy as a kid.  She hasn't quite figured out the moving thing....

So proud she got on it.

College reunion game.. I am so burned!!!

Sarah vs. the furbie.  Those things made a comeback!

What is wrong with this picture??

Yep, way to ignore the seatbelt Sarah!

Love me some Sunday coupons!

Best thing about the grocery store!

Don't mess with me.

Busy Busy!

We have been out and about the past few weeks.

We went to the corn maze this weekend, a wedding, a housewarming/pre-wedding party a trip to discovery zone kids, mom "ran" in a 5-K, a trip back to see some family and playing!

A few things about my child we are learning. She LOVES speed. She is always running. People compliment us on her "walking" skills.  She also likes go really fast whether it is in her car, our car, or in the laundry basket.

She has now likes mastered putting things on her head. like boxers, underwear, etc.  Pretty nifty!

I actually admitting that I think she actually sad Mama today.  ie. she was babbling mama with her arms raised. I didn't immediately pick her up and she came back over and raised her arms and said mama!  Not as earth shattering as I would have thought but pretty nifty!

Sarah wearing my massive race shirt!
Sarah hiding in the brick fireplace storage at the party!
Sarah farming at the kids place. She was getting ready to go to the corn maze.
Getting ready for some speed!
On the "ride"

Kids corn maze with Simon says instructions.

Running through the corn maze. Luckily mom figured how to get us out!

Going to the big kids corn maze. Wagon best investment ever.

We realized it was kind of sunny and not so comfortable. So Sarah got a bit of padding added.

Hayride back to the car. Wahoo!
She did this all on her own. I promise!
